Anchored on the edge of the Hudson River, The Collar Building blends living, research, and world-class technology across six dynamic floors—creating a destination where residents, scientists, and innovators intersect.
ZGF’s vision of “science on display” turns the building itself into a beacon of discovery, inspiring everyone who steps inside—or simply walks by—to imagine what comes next.
Historic in the City, Contemporary on the River: A Building That Reflects Troy’s Past and Its Future
Facing Monument Square, the building presents a more historic and grounded architectural expression, echoing Troy’s Victorian streetscape and aligning with the scale and rhythm of its surrounding blocks. This façade reinforces the city’s character and roots the project firmly within Troy’s architectural heritage.

Inspired by the richly textured masonry and ornate details that define Troy’s Victorian-era buildings, The Collar Building carries forward the city’s legacy with subtle references woven into its façade. This design approach ensures the project feels authentically rooted in Troy’s architectural story, even as it introduces a striking, future-focused place for innovation.
Modern Form, Historic Fit
Carefully calibrated to the proportions of Monument Square, the building stands out as new architecture while fitting in as if it’s always been there.
The building’s height and massing are calibrated to echo the surrounding streetscape, strengthening continuity across the square while introducing a modern identity.
